It’s said that Singer/songwriter Jeanne Jolly broke onto the music scene as the featured vocalist for Grammy Award nominated jazz trumpeter Chris Botti. However, Jolly is in fact a formally trained vocalist… she was a Fletcher Music Scholar at Western Carolina University before going on to earn a Masters in Vocal Performance from The New England Conservatory.
She made a home in LA and paid her dues doing studio and commercial work for movies and television. It was this work that led to Grammy nominated Chris Botti hearing her on a demo and asking her to be his featured touring vocalist. This gave Jolly the opportunity to tour and perform with Botti and his Quintet throughout North America and to sing with world renowned symphonies, performing at venues like the Monterey Jazz Festival and playing to a sold out crowd at Carnegie Hall.
How do you top that? Jolly chose to leave the limelight to follow her heart and her muse to pursue a solo career as a singer songwriter. In her Bio she states that she felt herself "being pulled back to her Southern roots".

She subsequently co-wrote, co-produced, and recorded her first country/Americana EP in January, 2008 and started a band in Los Angeles.
In 2009, Jolly moved back to North Carolina where she began to focus on developing her guitar skills, sharpening her solo performance, and focusing on writing more of her own songs.
It wasn’t long until she once again found herself in the company of Grammy nominated artists, opening up for Sam Bush, Maura O’Connell, Chuck Mead, and many more.
| In October 2010 Jolly released her acclaimed new EP, 'Falling In Carolina'. You can Listen to Jolly's beautiful original composition 'Falling in Carolina' here: | |
In the song 'Falling in Carolina she writes:
as the wind shook the truth from the trees
with the leaves we fell in Carolina
and time stood still
We watched them fall one by one
Home in Carolina..."
If you listen to this rendition of Hallelujah recorded at the Southland Ballroom I trust you'll agree that we're fortunate indeed to have this very talented artist "Home in Carolina". - Mark Donley, 2012
“Succinctly, her vocals are a knockout. Wrap all of her talents together and she attains one of the most challenging goals of a performing artist: to have the public actually care about the singer. It’s a beautiful marriage and everybody wins; the audience entrusting the artist to take them on a journey that is emotionally fulfilling. That comes with responsibility and Miss Jolly seems more than capable of accepting and nurturing it.”

Jonathan Byrd Concert
Sunday October 23rd at 4:00pm
Thanks to all that made this concert a stunning sucess!
This very special parlor concert, hosted by the Hillsborough Arts Council will take place at The Davis Home, 107 West Orange St in the Hillsborough Historic District.
Doors Open at 3:30 pm
Concert starts at 4:00 pm
There will be two sets and a reception will follow.
Jonathan Byrd is best known for his narrative tales of love, life, and death in America. In 2003, he was among the winners of the prestigious New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Seven years later, with a bunch of records in between, Jonathan has just released Cackalack . His song, “The Ballad of Larry” has been listed a “Top Rated Song” by Americana-UK.
He primarily performs solo and accompanies himself in a variety of traditional acoustic guitar styles. His recordings typically include one or more instrumental tracks that feature Byrd’s skillful flat-picking technique.

He displays John Prine's gift for stark little songs that tell big, complex stories, Guy Clark's lean melodicism, Lyle Lovett's wry mischief, and Bill Morrissey's knack for the revealing image.”
| This is dark, funny, moody songwriting. His music is born of the road, rife with characters . . . You can feel the dust shake off the tops of old Martin guitars, fiddles, and the big dog-house bass. Overall, the feeling you get is of rummaging through the attic and rediscovering something very old and beautiful. “One of the top 50 songwriters of the last 50 years. ” Rich Warren of WFMT in the Chicago Tribune | ![]() |

Sally Spring in Concert
"Thick, quivering guitar conveys both warmth and spookiness, forming the perfect knotty-pine frame for Spring's voice, an instrument rich with experience." Sally Spring will perform Sunday evening at 4:00 pm January 23rd at the Whitmore home 125 West Queen St. Hillsborough.
Before she embarks on a tour including Memphis, Nashville, and Austin we are fortunate indeed to have the opportunity to share an intimate space in concert with this talented recording artist.
There is very limited seating for this event.

Her version of Johnny Cash’s “I Still Miss Someone” is extraordinary, with its quivering guitar, straight out of a David Lynch project; she slows it down Cat Power style, and can proudly stand up to any other artist who has recorded this song, including greats like Joan Baez and Dolly Parton.
The stunning “Mercy” gives me chills with its jittery singing and primal urgency. It’s an electrifying vocal, on a song dripping with regret and well-deserved self-pity... “I need some mercy from these shadows tonight.”
“Summer’s End” reaches deep, down low. It's a defiant, hopeful rumbling in the soul as she chronicles a town in jeopardy during a drought... “Today our church is full of tears, everyone from town is here, praying for a good rain, with God’s help, we will sustain”.
| "First-rate musicians, top-notch songs, impeccable production... Spring‘s album is made of stars, but the one who shines like a supernova is Sally Spring." album review by Robbie Woliver, The Examiner | |

______
Parlor Concerts 2010Corinne West & Kelly Joe Phelps in concert
"Corinne’s music doesn’t really fit in any genre box... It’s elegant new sexy acoustic jazz-rock-folk. It’s west coast acoustic-soul music. By any name, her music is absolutely compelling both in the strength of her writing and the expressive power of her voice."
Corinne West and Kelly Joe Phelps will perform Friday evening at 8:00 pm April 23rd at the Whitmore home 125 West Queen St. Hillsborough.
Currently touring the US, Holland and the UK we are very fortunate to be able to offer this opportunity to see these talented recording artists in an intimate venue.
There is limited seating for this event.
| Corinne West, a fourth generation Californian and musician who performs upwards of 200 shows each year, has a voice that simply soars. Using her powerfully eloquent voice, coupled with beautifully crafted songs - memorable both lyrically and melodically - she has fashioned a unique identity within American music’s acoustic/roots scene. Her latest record, 'The Promise', confirms West’s place among the finest young singer-songwriters | |
| Kelly Joe Phelps has, over the course of eight CD’s and fifteen years of touring the world, established himself as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter with singular vision and fearless purpose. His mix of folk, blues, and jazz has won him praise from the likes of Bill Frisell, Steve Earl, and Cameron Crowe. Kelly Joe has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered’ and ‘Prairie Home Companion’ as well as numerous BBC and other national radio shows throughout Europe, Australia and Japan. Steve Earle: "Kelly Joe Phelps plays, sings, and writes the blues. HOLD UP before you lock that in - forget about songs in a twelve bar three chord progression with a two line repeat and answer rhyme structure - though he can certainly do that when he wants to. I'm talking about a feeling, a smoky, lonesome, painful - yet somehow comforting groove that lets you know that you are not alone - even when you're blue. Play on brother." |
...musically, Phelps combines his love of Piedmont style picking, early 20th century Texas, Louisiana, and deep Delta blues with his love of decidedly Western notions of folk song and Rocky Mountain Mountain music.
Western Bell is among the most unique acoustic guitar recordings out there today...
...Cryptic, hushed, confoundingly beautiful, this is a brilliant, deeply moving work by an artist who has created a new language on the acoustic guitar, culled from the discontinued speech fragments of American music's own mysterious past. "
"Just three records in and The Promise, confirms Corinne West’s place among America’s finest... Coupling a voice to die for with beautifully crafted songs that are memorable both lyrically and melodically West has fashioned a unique identity within the acoustic/roots scene. This time out, by conjuring more spacious, atmospheric arrangements that place West’s sublime vocals way out at the front of the mix.... West has not deserted her roots but rather honed her production skills to cut her most ambitious and enduring record to date... "
Review by Colin Hall ~ R2 ~ RocknReel ~ The UK’s best selling eclectic music magazine.
"It’s a stirring body of work, by turns haunting, gripping and moving – and all wrapped around Corinne’s distinctive smoky vocals."
Tim Hughes, Oxford Mail, UK
In concert, Corinne brings a special grace and fire to the stage. The strength of her songwriting, the power of her voice and her magnetic stage presence create a captivating performance, winning rave reviews at home and abroad. People who hear Corinne perform once want to be there again. Some have taken to traveling major distances for the opportunity. If you get the chance to hear her live, take it… Lady Luck’s a music lover, and there’s no telling where this all might go.
Reception will follow the concert, with thanks to Weaver Street Market, The Hillsborough Wine Co. and Matthews Chocolates
